StubHub records October the busiest sports month for secondary ticket marketplace
StubHub discerns that all four major professional sports leagues in the United States have a busy schedule in October, turning out to be the busiest sports month of the year for the secondary ticket marketplace. Major pro sports leagues include Major League Baseball, National Football League, National Basketball Association and National Hockey League.
October marks the seasons — preseason, regular season and postseason — with a busy schedule, including the start of MLB’s postseason, the beginning of the 2018-19 season for the NBA and NHL, and the current midseason action in the NFL. Sports leagues that remain active this month contain the Major League Soccer and NCAA, which organizes college football and other sports.
StubHub, known as the world’s top destination for ticket buyers and resellers, saw a rise in ticket sales volume. Statistics revealed that about 500,000 tickets were sold on the secondary ticket market for sporting events each week in October. Of that volume, 70,000 tickets were sold per day, 50 tickets per minute or 1 ticket every second of the month.
The secondary ticket platform noted that the sports tickets sold on StubHub this month would reach out as far as 568 miles. Fans would travel from New York City to Cincinnati for sporting events. Yankee Stadium could be filled 41 times with ticket holders. For more information, the details can be found on StubHub Press Box.
NHL season opened on October 3, while the 2018-19 NBA season will tip off on October 16. As of Monday, StubHub revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers have the most in-demand ticket on the resale market for the NBA this season. The hottest ticket in the NHL now belongs to Vegas Golden Knights. The postseason for MLB in the fall is already underway.
