The Crowning Jewel In The World Of Theaters- Sydney Opera House
It is safe to say that the Sydney Opera House is one of the most famous theaters in the world. It is not only a theater but a symbol of architectural excellence. Named after the capital city of New South Wales, Sydney, this theater has become an identity of Australia. Whenever you talk about Australia, an image of the Sydney Opera House comes to mind. That explains the significance of this brilliant structure that is home to some of the world’s finest artists. It will not be wrong to say that the Sydney Opera House is the pride of Australia and modern architecture.
The Design Of Sydney Opera House
Jørn Utzon was a Danish architect who was tasked with designing the Sydney Opera House, which started back in 1958. The building was officially inaugurated in 1973. The designing of this masterpiece was divided into three different stages. The first stage involved the construction of the podium. In the second stage, the famous outer shells of the Sydney Opera House were constructed. Finally, in the third stage, the interior designing and decoration of the theater were completed. It took almost 13 years to complete this mega structure. One of the first instances of the use of computers in architectural design is found in the construction of the outer shells of the theater, which work as the roof of the building. The exterior looks like 3 huge shells, which resemble the shape of a boat’s front, placed on top of each other.
Everyone knows how great the exterior design of the Opera House is. The real beauty, however, lies on the inside. The interior in most venues is of a crimson shade, mixing with gold and wooden hues. The stage looks on to a range of rows neatly arranged in the front, and special rooms are placed on either side.
The main venues inside the Sydney Opera House are as follows;
- Concert Hall
- The Joan Sutherland Theater
- Studio Theater
The building has some beautiful foyers and halls. The interior is truly world class and worthy of this mega structure. The best part? It offers a great view of the ocean, as it is built right on the Sydney Harbor’s Bennelong Point. It really puts most other theaters to shame with all of its praiseworthy features.
